About FAIR
"Subverting the dominant paradigm"
Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.
- Bertolt Brecht
Our Mission
FAIR's mission is to strengthen social cohesion and multicultural harmony, address injustices and discrimination, through building capacity and developing strong voices within the Muslim community, using art as a way to shape our world, and the promotion of peace with justice.
It also aims to breakdown misconceptions about Islam and to highlight the invaluable contribution and impact that Islam has had and continues to have in Australia.
Who We Are
FAIR is an independent, non-sectarian public relations think tank that analyses and provides commentary on social and cultural issues facing the Muslim community in Australia, while promoting positive and harmonious relationships between Muslims and the wider Australian community.
Established in 2004 with over 20 community organizations in attendance, FAIR emerged in response to the need for a voice of reason in the Australian Muslim community following 9/11 and the Bali Bombings.
What We Do
As a public interface with extensive research capabilities, FAIR monitors media coverage, pursues complaints, and assists journalists with developing more positive and insightful reporting about Islam and Muslim community matters.
Beyond media engagement, FAIR has been pivotal in building bridges at the grassroots level through its initiatives, its volunteering programs, and community arts projects.
FAIR runs community capacity building programs, leadership development, media training, arts projects and organises conferences and events that promote social cohesion and community harmony, with the rationale that promotes equality and social justice.
