About FAIR
In the name of Allah the Most Compassionate The Most Merciful
Paving the way for better understanding
The Forum on Australia's Islamic Relations is an independent public relations group aimed specifically at promoting a positive and harmonious relationship between MUSLIMS AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY. It is a not for profit organization, associated with the Department of Fair trading. FAIR as we are known was incorporated in May 2003. This is done primarily through its interaction through the media and other program which involve government, education, the law and welfare.
It has to date successfully made an impact on the Australian media and been one of the few voices of reason and moderation in the Islamic community. FAIR has large following from young Australians and is a role model for the youth.
FAIR aims to preserve our civil liberties and protect our religious and social rights, reduce religious bigotry and ignorance about Islam, simultaneously promoting involvement and active participation of Muslim Australians within the broader spectrum of Australian society.
FAIR has extensive research and knowledge of the community and deals effectively with wide-ranging issues. As well as being a public interface, FAIR monitors media, pursues complaints and assists journalists with stories and runs “Inside Islam” Seminars which is designed to assist media professionals and to enrich the knowledge of the Islamic community, the various schools of thought and the historical backdrop of the Islamic resurgence and ideology.
FAIR has also been pivotal in building bridges at grass roots levels. Now in its fourth year, the Award winning Goodness and Kindness Project has broken down stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam amongst 20000 school students in NSW and Victoria.
Last year FAIR was a recipient of a LIH grant which ran 23 Community Interfaith Conflict Resolution Workshops in five cities; Alice Springs, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne and two prisons; Lithgow and Bathurst. The project was called Connecting Communities – AVP Interfaith. The project was in collaboration with the Alternatives to Violence Project- Australia.
FAIR publishes its own newspaper called Australia Fair (English) and operate its own media and research centre where basic functions such as monitoring the media, issuing press releases and planning strategies to deal with the media and Media training are conducted. FAIR has an extensive team of writers, journalists, activists, academics, lawyers and religious scholars who contribute towards the promotion of an inclusive and fair society.
